Project Overview

For World Hypertension Day 2025 (May 17), Baykins Pharmacy Limited and Baykins Diagnostics set out to bring early screening awareness and professional health guidance to residents of Idado, Lekki, so people could know their numbers and ask questions about their health and medication. Residents received blood pressure checks, blood sugar screening, BMI checks, hepatitis B and other related screenings, and free consultations. The outreach also built trust and visibility for the pharmacy in the community. I led it from ideation through execution and closure.

Objective

Promote awareness and early detection of hypertension and related health conditions through free screenings and education.

Approach

I used a hybrid approach, combining structured planning with the flexibility to adapt as things changed.

  • Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): Broke the project into clear work packages so every team member understood what they were responsible for and what was expected.

  • Gantt chart scheduling: Mapped the timeline from initiation through execution and closure, which kept approvals, procurement, and event-day preparation in sequence.

  • Risk management: Maintained a simple risk register to identify risks, share them with the team, and agree mitigation plans where possible.

  • Change management and prioritization: When changes came in, I assessed what was needed at that point, prioritized accordingly, and adapted the plan without losing sight of the objectives.

  • Stakeholder management: Aligned early with management on objectives and success criteria, kept the community head involved through approvals and resident communication, reviewed the plan with the organization before execution, and coordinated the team with clarity.

  • Dry run: Rehearsed event day with the team so roles were clear and blockers were removed in advance.

  • Promotion: Flyers went out through Baykins branches, and the Idado pharmacy shared a digital flex announcing the event.

My Contribution

What I owned

  • Defined success: Turned stakeholder expectations and business needs into clear objectives and success criteria.

  • Earned community buy-in: Followed up with the community head until the date and venue were approved.

  • Planned and adapted: Presented the plan for review and refined it with feedback.

  • Got everything event-ready: Worked with procurement, vendors, the lab department, and the audit lead on supplies, printed materials, and test materials, then ran a dry run so roles were clear and blockers were removed.

  • Ran the day: Coordinated operations, managed the early rush, arranged language support, and handled feeding and logistics.

  • Kept it accountable: Tracked planned versus actual budget and delivered a final report to management.

What the team delivered

  • Medical personnel: Attended to every resident, explained results, answered health and medication questions, maintained standard testing procedures, recorded results accurately, and supported resident care.

  • Front desk: Registered residents and collected their details before consultations.

  • Digital marketing: Captured photo and video coverage and helped direct residents on seating and movement.

  • Support: Directed residents where needed

  • Management: Reviews and approvals

Challenges

  • Securing approval and a venue took consistent follow-up with the community head.

  • A large early rush, plus some elderly residents who needed support in their local dialect, called for quick, flexible coordination on the day.

Key Takeaway

  • Document as you go. It makes reporting and future case studies easier.

  • Stakeholder follow-up and a pre-event dry run prevent most surprises.
