Project Overview

Development and launch of an electronics e-commerce website that enables customers to browse products, compare brands and prices, check availability, make online payments, and arrange deliveries. The platform also provides the business with an online sales channel and an administrative dashboard for monitoring transactions and product performance.

Problem

  • Lack of a well-established online presence or digital sales channel.

  • Customers had limited visibility into product varieties, prices, brands, and availability.

  • Physical store visits created unnecessary friction for customers who could otherwise purchase remotely.

  • Limited centralized visibility into online sales, inventory, and product performance.

Approach

  • Discovery & requirements: Engaged the business owner to understand business objectives, customer needs, expectations, and desired functionalities. Used discovery discussions to clarify gaps and agree on project scope.

  • Planning & documentation: Prepared the project proposal covering scope, implementation phases, costs, and timelines. Developed the BRD and translated agreed business requirements into a PRD with the engineering lead.

  • Backlog & prioritization: Broke requirements into features, user stories, and acceptance criteria. Prioritized using MoSCoW, considering business needs, client expectations, dependencies, and what was essential for the initial release.

  • Agile delivery: Coordinated two-week sprint planning, feature assignments, progress reviews, and stakeholder feedback, working closely with engineering to track delivery and resolve blockers.

  • Testing & launch: Coordinated user acceptance testing, feedback resolution, launch preparation, and onboarding for the client's staff.

Challenge

As the project progressed and development had already started, we encountered changing requirements from the client, including changes within an ongoing sprint. I clarified the reason behind each request and assessed its impact on scope, effort, dependencies, and timelines with the engineering lead. We then determined what was critical to the current sprint, what could be accommodated without disrupting delivery, and what should move into the next sprint. Where necessary, I reprioritized the backlog based on business needs and evolving client expectations, discussed the trade-offs with the client, and agreed on the best way forward before updating the delivery plan.
